The Apostille eliminates the need for diplomatic or consular legalization of public and private documents between the member countries of the Hague Convention of 1961. Honduras joined this convention on September 30, 2004.
Since then, Honduran documents intended for countries of the Convention and documents from those countries intended for Honduras do not require additional authentication at consulates. They are authenticated at the “Section of Authenticities and Apostilles” of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Canada’s Accession
As of January 11, 2024, Canada became a member of the Hague Convention. Canadian documents will be eligible for apostille for use in the 124 member countries, including Honduras. This means that most documents will not require an apostille from our embassy to be valid in Honduras and Canada.
